SPRAY-ABLE HIGH BUILD EASY SAND EPOXY FILLER-UNDERCOAT.

EASY FAIR HB is a two pack, epoxy fairing filler-undercoat that contains a very high proportion of lightweight glass micro-spheres that enable thick coats to be applied without sagging. It is easy to use has been developed for spray application but it can be applied by brush over small areas. The cured coating is easy to sand to a perfect finish and is non clogging.

EASY FAIR HB should be used as a fairing coat where surface imperfections need to be filled and sanded before final undercoats and topcoats are applied.

PREPARATION Large holes or hollows should be filled and faired using EASY FAIR filler. Several ‘fills’ may be needed to bring hollow areas up to within 1 mm of the fair surface. Existing coatings should be thoroughly abraded and the substrate should be free of any contamination such as oil, grease, dust etc. Old coatings should be primed with
SAFEGUARD PS but EASY FAIR HB can be applied directly to sanded EASY FAIR filler and recently applied epoxy coatings.

MIXING  Epoxy resins and hardeners must be thoroughly mixed in the correct ratios to ensure complete curing of the product. Each can of REACTIVE RESINS coatings is supplied with the correct amount of hardener, all of which must be added to the can of resin and mixed well immediately before use. Do not try to accelerate or retard setting of the material by varying the amount of hardener used as this will cause the coating not to set at all, or to prematurely fail. Thorough mixing is also critical to the correct curing of the product and although small packs can easily be mixed by hand, a spiral mixer used in a pneumatic or cordless drill is essential for mixing larger packs. The pot life that is stated in each products literature will depend on the ambient temperature. Pot life can be extended by pouring the mixed material into trays which will allow the exothermic heat generated by the curing reaction of the resin and hardener to dissipate. Do not mix more material than can be used within its pot life. If a smaller amount is required than is in a pack, the components must me accurately weighed in the proportions shown on the product label. Digital kitchen scales are ideal for this purpose and are much easier to use than the spring type. Simply tare off the scale, pour out an approximate amount of resin, calculate the amount of hardener required, tare off the scales again and accurately weigh out the hardener. Proportioning by eye or by volume is not sufficiently accurate to achieve reliable results.

APPLICATION EASY FAIR HB is best applied with airless or HVPL spray equipment to large areas but small jobs can easily be applied by brush. When spraying hold the gun at 90º to the surface to avoid a build up on the edge of depressions. Multiple coats may be built up without allowing each coat to fully cure, but not more than 1 mm should be applied without allowing time for the solvent to evaporate.

When using a brush work the EASY FAIR HB in one direction using a light touch to create a smooth surface ensuring that imperfections are filled. Care should be taken not to ‘drag’ the EASY FAIR HB, any brush marks can be readily sanded out.  Multiple coats may be built up and then sanded once cured to achieve the desired finish.

EASY FAIR HB should be applied to previously primed surfaces, depending on the substrate and should be allowed to cure before sanding. EASY FAIR HB can be easily sanded to a feather edge.

Use SYNSOL 100 epoxy solvent to thin the material to spraying viscosity.
