ABRASION RESISTANT EPOXY-CERAMIC STEEL COATING

ARMOURGUARD S is intended for use on marine and industrial steelwork above and below the waterline where the best possible protection from abrasion and mechanical damage is required combined with maximum corrosion protection.

ARMOURGUARD S is a two part, low solvent epoxy-ceramic coating that contains 70% of solid ceramic micro-spheres. Also included in the formulation are a carefully selected blend of additives to enhance adhesion to steel, other non porous substrates and existing coatings.

The cured coating contains the maximum possible amount of  ceramic micro-spheres which form a composite with far superior adhesion, abrasion and corrosion resistance than normal epoxy coatings. ARMOURGUARD S is virtually impervious to water, water vapour and oxygen. Its unique formulation eliminates the requirement for separate primers and undercoats because ARMOURGUARD’s superb barrier properties prevent oxygen and moisture reaching the substrate. When applied outside it should be protected from strong sunlight by one coat of polyurethane gloss.

ARMOURGUARD S should preferably be applied to shot or hydro-blasted steel that is free from traces of soluble salts. ARMOURGUARD S can be applied to damp substrates without  detriment to the durability of the coating. Puddles and large drops of water should be mopped up or blown away with compressed air before application of the coating. ARMOURGUARD can also be applied to sound old epoxy coatings provided they are clean and have been abraded.

ARMOURGUARD S is available in two grades to allow curing at temperatures down to 5ºC. It is cured with

SYNAMIN hardeners which are available in three reactivities to suit the ambient temperature. The most suitable hardener for the application conditions will be supplied to give a pot life is 1½ to 2½ hours at the temperatures shown in the table below.

ARMOURGUARD S can be applied with high pressure airless or conventional spray equipment supplied with material from a pressure pot. For maximum protection three coats should be applied to a dry film thickness of 300 microns. ARMOURGUARD can also be applied to small areas by roller or brush. When applied outside it should be protected from strong sunlight by one coat of polyurethane gloss.

A dry film thickness of 100 micron will allow a coverage of approximately 8m² per litre.

ARMOURGUARD S is available in light and mid grey, light blue, black and white. Other colours are available to order
