QUICK DRY BLAST PRIMER FOR SHOT-BLASTED STEEL
ARMOURGUARD BP is a quick drying two part epoxy-ceramic holding primer intended for
application in thin coats to freshly shot blasted steel. It has exceptional adhesion
to steel and its rapid drying allows blasting to quickly recommence without contaminating
primed areas.
- Very short dust free time
- Tremendous adhesion to the substrate
- Surface tolerant & can be applied to damp substrates
- Low fume weld through
ARMOURGUARD BP contains the same spherical ceramic particles as the other grades
of Armourguard and produces a similar composite coating with exceptional abrasion
resistance and adhesion properties. Additional benefits are very rapid dry with long
pot life and improved corrosion resistance as compared to standard epoxy blast primers.
ARMOURGUARD BP is a two-part, medium solvent epoxy coating containing 58% of ceramic
micro-spheres. The cured coating contains the maximum possible amount of ceramic,
which forms a flexible composite coating with far superior adhesion, abrasion and
corrosion resistance properties than normal epoxy coatings. It is virtually impervious
to water, water vapour and oxygen. It also contains a carefully se-lected blend of
additives to enhance adhesion to steel and other metals.
ARMOURGUARD BP must be applied to shot or hydro-blasted steel that is free from traces
of soluble salts. It can be applied to damp substrates without detriment to the durability
of the coating. Puddles and large drops of water should be blown away with dry compressed
air before application of the coating.
ARMOURGUARD BP can be applied in temperatures between 5ºC and 50ºC. It is cured with
SYNAMIN hardeners which are available in three reactivities to suit the ambient temperature.
The most suitable hardener for the application conditions will be supplied to give
a pot life is 6 to 8 hours at the temperatures shown in the table below.
ARMOURGUARD BP can be applied with high pressure airless, conventional spray equipment
supplied with material from a pressure pot. It is difficult to apply by brush or
roller in hot conditions due to its rapid drying. A dry film thickness of 30 micron
will allow a theoretical coverage of 30m² per litre
ARMOURGUARD BP is available in light and mid grey. Other colours are available to
